Recently the law changed and Stephanie was able to legally marry her lifelong partner David. They had a beautiful ceremony in our stately TV Hotel. Here's their story :
David and I first married 21 years ago in Sri Lanka but this has never been legally recognised in the UK. With the change in the law I was allowed to change my birth certificate and this allowed us to remarry as man and wife legal in all respects.
We were awoken by Dawn, David’s youngest daughter who brought us champagne, scrambled egg and smoked salmon in bed.
Although cold, the day broke with clear blue skies and sunshine after a period of rain. Two girls turned up to do our hair and make-up, then the photographer followed by the dress designer who helped us in to our dresses.
Unbeknown to me Dawn had organised a vintage Rolls Royce to collect us from the farm and take us in style to Bodidris Hall.
Upon arrival we went in to the main lounge to await the call that everyone was ready for us in the wedding chapel which is in the grounds of the hotel.
My son, gave me away and Raiko acted as David’s best man. Andy, Dawn and myself walked down the aisle and then I met up with David in front of the Registrar.
It was a beautiful personal service and we gave our vows and exchanged rings in front of our closest friends and family. After the service we returned to the main hotel building and celebrated with a glass of Kir Royale.
After the photography, we sat around a circular table for a fabulous meal ( those of you who have already visited Bodidris will vouch for the high standard of cuisine).
A perfect day, with perfect weather came to a close as David and a I returned to the farm (it is really an animal sanctuary where we look after approximately 300 animals who live out the rest of their lives with us after being abandoned or ill-treated)
We now have the memory of that day when we are married at home as well as abroad. There is nothing in life equal to a one-to-one loving relationship and now at the ripe old age of 60, I look forward to at least another 21 years of marriage.
