Uniforms

A Crush
It helps to remind ourselves that the scope of uniforms is much greater than the few available in fantasy or authentic forms. All sorts of female employees wear some kind of uniform: waitresses and bank clerks are obvious examples as well as shop girls. The great variety of roles they embody, the enormous range of possibilities, is part of the lure of uniforms.
In the early 1960s I often travelled on the same bus as an air hostess - I developed quite a crush on the girl, and how I would have loved to try on her uniform! An unrealised dream for me, alas.
My fifth and final category of uniforms is the 'composite'. There is no reason why every item in a uniform has to have the same status. If you are lucky enough to have a wife's or ex-wife's old school tie, there is no reason why you should not combine it with, for example, a Transformation gymslip. That would combine the genuine with the authentic. A plain white blouse might bring in the improvised. Possibly, high heels and fishnets might add a touch of the fantasy.
Most uniforms include some kind of headgear, and a genuine hat can add a magic touch to an otherwise unconvincing attempt at uniform. My improvised army outfit has since been greatly enhanced by a genuine WRAC cap. When selecting such a hat, it is worth bearing in mind that wearing a wig will add a full hat size - ensure you take account of this when you buy.
This free and easy philospy of mixing and matching adds an extra touch of enjoyment to our uniforms. They are not set in stone - we are free to mix and match... "the blouse is good, but the skirt isn't quite right..."
Fantasy, improvised, authentic, genuine, composite: there are plenty of ways to slip into uniform. Each has its own attractions. However one does it, uniforms are fun - they give a whole new dimension to cross dressing.
Why settle for just being a girl when you could be a schoolgirl, nurse, maid, policewoman... even a shop girl? Use your imagination, be creative: there's a whole world of roles out there!
