Andrea's Diary (Part 2)

Travelling from where you have changed to where you are going is also a key consideration. Many of you would consider using your car, which is safe and convenient.

Transgender Life

Be Prepared - Things will happen around you and may adversely change your plans, if you're prepared for these eventualities then you will retain your feminine poise and cope with getting yourself out of a potentially awkward situation. Don't kid yourself that it may not happen!

The only way I can give any real insight into this is to describe a few incidents that have actually happened to me during my trips around London over recent years. Bear in mind I always wear a short skirt (I don't own anything longer that 2" above the knee!).

The most common situation is that you get read. Some bloke shouts out to his mate 'hey there's a man dressed as a girl', or worse still they stand beside you and stare. One simple golden rule: don't respond, just assume they must be referring to somone else, and get on with what you planned to do. This is where having a purpose is so important (you're on a mission!)

You can simply look straight through that person because you are going somewhere. Remember, you're in a public place, it's they who are making a scene not you, so don't be daunted.

Travelling can have its pitfalls as well. I was in a minicab once to go shopping in London's Oxford Street, and was followed for some distance by the police. The driver said he thought he was about to be pulled over, and sure enough we were in the middle of a busy London street when they did!

He had two defective rear tyres, and clearly he was going nowhere and so I got out and offered to pay my fare (which the driver declined and said no charge - he couldn't do much else) and the policeman just said 'wise move (sir!)' and I walked off down the street.

I was a total wreck inside, thinking that all these people would be staring and how easily the policeman read me. In reality people were too busy going about their day-to-day business to notice me. I never looked back but just kept walking down the street, got my bearings as to where I was and modified my shopping plans to suit.
